ASSIGNMENT DUE Sunday 4/15/12 @ 11:59PM – 50 points

You and your two teammates are the newly hired marketing manager of TallahasseeSocial, a new Tallahassee marketing start-up business. Your new company recently won the contract of the College of Communication and Information at FSU to market LIS 3353 to FSU students using social media and web 2.0 technologies.

To Do:
  1. Form groups of 3 people maximum.
    1. Elect a chair to serve as the main administrator for the group.
    2. Exchange contact information.
    3. Select a discipline (other than Communication or IT) to focus your efforts on (e.g., English, Psychology, etc.).
  2. The chair must gather the contact information of all group members in class today and come up to the podium TODAY for Casey to enter in the LIS 3353 wiki.
  3. Each group will create a six page (minimum) website linked on individual student iSpace accounts covering the following information:
    1. Main Page
      1. Create a graphic using any image editing software available[1] that serves as the logo for the site you’re creating
      2. Create a table that includes links to all of the pages in your site.
    2. Introduction
      1. Write a brief paragraph (4-7 sentences) overview of the class (LIS 3353).
      2. Identify and explain your current audience/customer/target description.
      3. Identify and explain your future audience/customer/target description.
    3. Why Technologies/LIS 3353?
      1. Selling points to non-majors
      2. Selling points to majors
      3. Selling points to minors
    4. Existing Social Media Channels
      1. Research other universities’ use of social media to advertise/promote a department and describe their efforts (250 words minimum).
      2. Provide examples of how your team would use Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube in this campaign
    5. Marketing the course
      1. Identify and explain 2 or more technologies your team will use to market the course
      2. Identify and explain 2 or more Web 2.0 tools your team will use to market the course
    6. Detailed Marketing Plan for (d) and (e)
      1. How exactly will you implement your strategies? For example, if you indicate that you’ll create a Facebook page, explain what goes on the page, how you plan to use it, how students and people will get on the site, how frequently it is updated, what type of content you’ll put in, etc. Heavy on the DETAIL!
      2. Demonstrate 2 of the strategies as a mockup. For example, if you indicate that you’ll create a Facebook page, do it – put one together. If you indicate that you’ll create a blog, create a blog and put up sample copy.
  4. You as a group will COLLECTIVELY determine how you will all complete these steps. Each group member will host two pages on each of their sites, with any page names, designs, CSS, ANYTHING!, you would like. The only requirement in terms of structure here is that the main page be titled mainpage.html and should contain all of the links to the other five pages on that first page.
